Mid-Day Indian Stock Market Update: Sector-Wise Performance and Top Trends

The Indian stock market remained rangebound in the first half of Thursday’s trading session (May 22, 2025), with both Nifty 50 and Sensex showing mixed cues amid global uncertainty and cautious investor sentiment ahead of key U.S. data releases.

As of 12:45 PM IST, the Nifty 50 was trading around 24,960, up +0.08%, while the Sensex hovered near 82,050, gaining +0.06%. The broader market showed mild strength, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 outperforming the benchmark indices.

Sector-Wise Market Performance

1. 

Banking & Financials

The Bank Nifty traded near 53,220, with marginal gains after early volatility. ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank were mildly positive. PSU banks saw some buying interest, led by Bank of Baroda and PNB.

2. 

IT Sector

After a weak open, the Nifty IT index recovered slightly as tech stocks like Infosys and Wipro witnessed buying at lower levels. Global tech cues remain supportive.

3. 

Auto Sector

Auto stocks were among the stronger sectors in today’s trade. Tata Motors, M&M, and Eicher Motors led gains, supported by strong delivery volume and monthly outlook optimism.

4. 

FMCG

The Nifty FMCG index remained flat as traders booked profits after recent highs. Britannia and HUL were slightly weak, while ITC traded firm.

5. 

Energy & Oil & Gas

Mixed action seen in oil-related stocks despite stable crude prices. ONGC traded flat, while Reliance remained under mild pressure.

6. 

Realty & Infra

The Nifty Realty index saw minor profit booking after a strong rally in the previous session. Stocks like DLF and Godrej Properties slipped marginally.
