📘 Day 3: Developing a Trading Plan
Objective: Learn how to build a structured, rule-based trading plan to stay consistent and disciplined in the markets.
🔑 Why a Trading Plan Is Essential
A trading plan is your roadmap to success in the market. It helps remove emotions, reduce uncertainty, and keep you focused. Without a trading plan, you’re simply gambling.
🧩 Core Components of a Trading Plan
- Trading Style
Are you a:- Intraday trader (short timeframes, quick decisions)?
- Swing trader (holding trades for days/weeks)?
- Positional trader (long-term outlook)?
- Market & Instrument Selection
Decide what you’ll trade:- Stocks, Options, Futures, Commodities, Crypto
- Large caps, mid caps, or small caps
- Specific sectors: IT, Bank Nifty, Pharma, etc.
- Entry Strategy
- What triggers a trade?
Example: Bullish Engulfing + RSI above 50 + MACD crossover - Timeframe used: 5-min, 15-min, or daily?
- What triggers a trade?

4. Exit Strategy
- Target Profit: e.g. 3:1 reward-to-risk ratio
- Stop Loss: Based on ATR, recent support/resistance, or fixed %
5. Position Sizing
- How much capital to deploy per trade?
- Rule: Risk only 1-2% of capital per trade
6. Risk Management Rules
- Max daily loss: e.g., 3% of capital
- No revenge trading or over-leveraging
- Stick to SLs no matter what
- Trading Schedule
Define:- Market hours you’ll trade (e.g. 9:15–11:30 AM only)
- Weekly review/market prep time
- No trading during high volatility events like Budget day, Fed announcements
- Psychological Readiness
- Journaling your emotions
- Taking breaks after big wins/losses
- Affirmations and mindset check before trading
